Winter Is Here

I love snow! So I was pleasantly surprised to wake up to this outside our door. Although I enjoy winter and snow, I do not like really cold weather. It's been very cold here this week and got down to 25 degrees yesterday with high winds...not fun. But I guess it's a sign of things to come. We here the winters here are brutal. I thought nothing could get worse than Idaho winters. I think we are in for a treat.

As for us, we are pretty uneventful, hence not posting anything for over a week. Dustin is really busy preparing for finals that are coming up very quickly. We can't believe our first semester here is almost over. Our time here goes by so fast!

Paula's Yummy Pumpkin Bars

So I love Paula Deen's show on the the Food Network. I think she's absolutely hilarious. I saw her make this recipe and I had to try it. They are the best pumpkin bars ever! But make sure you share most of them and take them to friends or neighbors because if you don't you'll end up eating the whole pan yourself. Enjoy! Bars: 4 eggs 1 2/3 cups granulated sugar 1 cup vegetable oil 15-ounce can pumpkin 2 cups sifted all-purpose flour 2 teaspoons baking powder 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon 1 teaspoon salt 1 teaspoon baking soda Icing: 8-ounce package cream cheese, softened 1/2 cup butter or margarine, softened 2 cups sifted confectioners' sugar 1 teaspoon vanilla extract Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Using an electric mixer at medium speed, combine the eggs, sugar, oil and pumpkin until light and fluffy. Stir together the flour, baking powder, cinnamon, salt and baking soda. Add the dry ingredients to the pumpkin mixture and mix at low speed until thoroughly combined and the batter is smooth. Spread the batter into a greased 13 by 10-inch baking pan. Bake for 30 minutes. Let cool completely before frosting. Cut into bars. To make the icing: Combine the cream cheese and butter in a medium bowl with an electric mixer until smooth. Add the sugar and mix at low speed until combined. Stir in the vanilla and mix again. Spread on cooled pumpkin bars. PS- So I don't think 30 minutes baking time is enough. The 2 times I've made them I've had to leave them for 40 minutes or else the middle isn't done.

So lately my digital camera just hasn't been working the way I want it to. I got it for Christmas 3 years ago and it's seen better days. So Dustin knew how bad I wanted a new one, especially for the holidays and surprised me yesterday with this hot pink Polaroid digital camera. It was supposed to be for Christmas, but Dustin is the worst at waiting for things like that so it came early. He gave it to me the second he came home from the store still in the plastic store bag. I was so excited!

Counting Down

I couldn't help myself. I put up my Christmas stuff on Friday. I usually wait until after Thanksgiving but I figured since we are going to Washington for a week and half for Christmas, I wanted to be able to enjoy it as long as possible. When Dustin came home from school and saw everything he definitely gave me the eye roll. But I love the Christmas season, and we already have all our Christmas shopping completely done! That never happens! Now we can just sit back and enjoy the holidays!

My Klutzy and Painful Week

So I have always considered myself a klutz. I feel like Dustin is always laughing at me for all the stupid things I do. I'm always spilling and breaking things, and knocking things over in public and it's something I'm not too proud of. But this week I was having really bad luck in the klutz department and fell into an unfortunate string of events. So to start the week off I was pulling a hot pan of muffins out of the oven and forgot that there was a hole in the ovenmitt that I grabbed. The hot pan touched my skin through the hole and burned me really bad. I screamed, dropped the pan and the muffins went flying everywhere. After a while a huge painful blister formed on my hand that still hasn't completely gone away. So a few days later I was at the gym on the treadmill and dropped my water bottle and it went flying to the ground. So I jumped off the treadmill while it was still going to pick up the bottle and I hit my leg on the side of the machine. It hurt so bad, it felt like a really bad rug burn, and turned into a nasty scab right on my shin. So the next day I was doing the dishes and went to put away this really big, thick, wooden cutting board that we have. My hands were wet from doing the dishes and cutting board slipped right out of my hands. And I bet you can guess what happened. I dropped the cutting board right on my toe!! I burst out crying, it hurt that bad! My toe turned red then purple...it's still in the healing process. You think that would be all, but to top it off, I pulled my back out and I'm not quite sure how I did it. All of the sudden it started hurting really bad to the point where I couldn't even get comfortable. I didn't even go to church because I could hardly move! It's been a week since that happened and I'm still in a little bit of pain. So hopefully with the start of the new week I will stay clear of anymore painful mishaps!!! At least I got some good use out of my First Aid Kit. Ouch!!

We Gave In!!

So we have really enjoyed viewing all our family and friends blogs recently and thought, what the heck, we'll start one too. Especially since we live so far away from any of our family and friends. So hopefully this will be a good way for all of you to know what's going on in the Sherwood home, even though most of the time it can be pretty uneventful with just us two. So just for some general information.... Dustin and I are living in Haslett, Michigan. Dustin was accepted to Michigan State University to do his maters in Supply Chain Management. He started this August and will finish May 2009. So we will be here until then. As for myself, my life is not near as busy as Dustin's. I'm working part time at Express. For those of you not familiar, it's a clothing store with really cute clothes, and I'm loving my employee discount!!! So the rest of my time is filled with the normal duties of a house wife, and serving in the Young Womens. I will also be planning to attend Cosmetology school after we move when Dustin is done here at school. So that's our life as is stands right now, and we will now be keeping you all up to date with whatever comes next!
