Last week before Dustin headed out of the country for two weeks for work, I decided to make a special breakfast to send him off on. Enter a warm buttery baked German pancake. I have never made one before and found an easy recipe online. While mixing the ingredients together I noticed that the amount of salt seemed super high. Like 5 tsp high. But never making one before I ignored my instinct, kept mixing and into the over it went.
I cut a piece, topped it with Nutella and berries, thus turning it into more of a dessert instead of a balance breakfast. As soon as the bite touched my lips, and before I even had the chance to chew, the overwhelming taste of salt consumed my mouth. It was completely inedible.
I was mad. I go back to the recipe to double check I read everyhting correctly. And sure enough...I didn't. When I read the recipe for 5 tsp of salt, I mistakenely seemd to not notice a little period before that 5. Ya, .5 tsp of salt, as in 1/2tsp of salt, not 5 tsp of salt. BIG difference. In my defense have you even seen a recipe use .5 instead of 1/2??? I am no dummy in the kitchen (for the most part), and this isn't the first thing I've baked, so seriously, who uses .5??
Luckily Dustin was uptairs on a work call during this whole fiasco and by the time he came downstairs, I had thrown away the salt cake, and whipped up some boxed pancakes before he even knew the difference.
So I will just look at the pictures and pretend it tastes amazing, and maybe will attempt it again when my bitterness(ha) towards german pancakes subsides.
